Borsch
One of the most famous of all Ukrainian dishes, this soup usually precedes the main course. Beetroot together with the tomato paste are the soup's main ingredients, giving it a distinctive red color. It also contains cabbage, potato, beans , carrot, onion and a little bit of garlic. It can be made according to 300 different recipes!
Chicken Kiev
This round shaped chicken cutlet filled with melted butter and cheese is famous all over the world. It's no doubting how good it tastes!
Salo
Pig fat may not sound like the most appetizing of dishes but this Ukrainian delicacy is a great snack and perfect accompaniment to vodka. Salo is best served on dark bread with a little garlic and it's also very tasty fried. It won't do any harm, on the contrary, Ukrainians say: a little salo a day keeps a doctor away:)
Golubtsi
The dish consists of minced meat to which is added boiled rice, fried onion and carrot. This mixture is then wrapped in a boiled cabbage leaf. This dish is served hot, usually with sour-cream. Very tasty!
Vareniki
Vareniki are the kind of draught pockets or dumplings which come with all manner of sweet and savory fillings: cherry, curds with raisins, cabbage and potatoes. But the list of stuffing is endless.
Deruny
This is a classic ukrainian dish, which is served hot with sour cream. It is made from grated potato which is then pulped. Eggs are added and this mixture is fried in form of pancakes.
Mlintsi
It is a ukrainian name for pancakes. The dish is a symbol of Maslennitsa, a pancake festival. Curds, mushrooms and poppy seeds are common pancake fillings in Ukraine.
Pickles
Pickled cucumbers is an ideal snack for vodka. Marinated tomatoes are also extremely popular and both dishes can be found on a traditional ukrainian table.
Shashliki
In a strictest sense this dish is not a ukrainian dish, but they are very popular and eaten almost every weekend. It is one of the most beloved food of ukrainians.
